Epididymitis and Epididymo-orchitis

Epididymitis is inflammation of the epididymis (the coiled tube on top of the testis), known as epididymo-orchitis.

 


  • Men may have swelling and  pain.

 


  • Epididymitis and epididymo-orchitis are diagnosed by physical checkup, urine  test, and sometimes Doppler ultrasonography test.

 


  • Treatment includes antibiotics taken by mouth, bed rest, pain relievers, and ice packs applied to the testes/ scrotum.

 

 

Symptoms:

swelling and tenderness of the affected area (testes)

 

Fluid around the testes (hydrocele)

 

Fever: (sometimes)

 

Diagnosis

  • doctor’s evaluation
  • urine  test

 

Treatment:

 

Antibiotics

 

Bed rest

 

Measures to relieve pain

 

Complication:

 

 

Abscesses usually require surgical drainage.
